Firstly I would like to point out at this stage I am not looking to alienate any Chelsea fans with this post. It is simply a vehicle to illustrate the importance of an insurance product…. although I am writing this following the defeat to Bournemouth. I’ll leave that there.

Whilst the recent results may (or may not – depending on who you listen to) be at the forefront of Jose Mourinho’s mind he will not be forgetting ‘physio-gate’. For those whose might not be up on the (not so current) affairs a Chelsea Doctor was dismissed following an incident where she attended to a player on the pitch in the crucial final minutes of a game. The Doctor in question, Dr Eva Carneiro, it appears from reports holds Mr Mourinho responsible and is bringing legal action against him as an individual rather than the club. The claim has been lodged with the Employment Tribunal and Chelsea are aware. This individual suit is not part of but linked to her claim against the club along the same theme.

Now Chelsea (aside from being able to afford expensive legal advice) could have some legal expenses insurance in force. This would meet the legal costs of potential action levelled at the club however it would not cover a situation where an individual at the club was sued such as in this case. Mourinho would be left out on his own to defend his case, unless of course the club put their hand in their pockets.

‘But Alistair, is there an insurance product that might deal with this situation?’ I hear you cry. Well, yes there is. A Directors and Officers Insurance policy could be purchased by the entity and will be written in their name but key to this product is the fact that it will meet claims that are brought against individual Directors and Officers (read – decision makers etc) of that company so in our example it would meet the defence costs of the case against Jose.

This product is ideal for all kinds of firms but also perfect for property management companies, residents associations, charities and other societies where there are trustees.

To talk through the scope of cover and how it might benefit you or your organisation (or if you simply want to talk about how terrible Chelsea are at the moment) then please do give us a call.
